The heart of Vallis beats on the waterfront
Restaurant Vallis – formerly Hajduk – has stood on Bakar's main promenade, right by the sea, since 1982. Our whole story started in its kitchen: first a table by the sea, then guests who wanted to come back, and then apartments where they could stay.

Chapter V · Bakar
A small town in a bay, a big holiday
Bakar is one of the oldest towns in Kvarner: stone lanes, a castle above the bay and a waterfront full of boats. The calm of a small place – with Rijeka, Opatija and Krk half an hour's drive away.

A seafaring tradition
A town of seafarers and captains, home to one of the oldest maritime schools on the Adriatic. The waterfront is still full of boats.
Bakarska vodica
For centuries vines have grown on the terraced vineyards above the bay, giving the famous sparkling wine Bakarska vodica.
A perfect base for trips
Rijeka, Opatija, Crikvenica and the island of Krk are 15 to 30 minutes' drive away – and in the evening you return to the calm of a small town.
